Getting started

How does sharing a trip work?

You create a trip, give it a name and dates, and invite people to it. As you go, you post updates with photos, videos, voice notes, a caption, and a place. Everyone you invited sees those updates in the app or in a web browser.

Invite people by sharing your trip link over text, email, or any messaging app, or by picking a contact from your phone. They tap the link and they are in.

Do the people I invite need the app or an account?

No. A trip link opens in any web browser, and they can read updates, comment, and react without downloading anything or signing up.

The app is worth it if they want push notifications when you post. Following a trip is always free, no matter how they view it.

What can I put in an update?

Up to 10 items per update, in any mix of photos, videos, and voice notes, plus a caption and a place. Video clips are capped at 30 seconds each.

You can also attach a voice note to a photo, so it plays as narration when someone views it, or post a voice note on its own with no photo at all.

Can other people on my trip post to it?

Yes. Anyone travelling with you can be added as a collaborator, which lets them post their own updates to the same trip. Everyone's photos land in one place instead of scattering across group chats.

Everyone else stays a viewer, which means they can read, comment, and react but not post.

Can I edit or delete an update after posting?

Yes. The person who posted an update can edit its caption and place, and reorder its photos. Edited updates are marked as edited so nobody is misled about what changed.

An update can be deleted by whoever posted it or by the trip owner. Deleting it removes it, and its photos and comments, for everyone following the trip.

What is a postcard, and how do I send one?

A postcard turns a photo from your trip into something you can send on its own. Pick a photo, write a note on the back, and email it to up to 10 people at a time. They do not need an account to open it.

A postcard can be shared publicly even when the trip it came from stays private, so it is the one piece of a trip you can show anyone.

Privacy and access

Who can see my trip updates?

Only the people who have your trip link. Trips are not public, not searchable, and not listed anywhere.

Treat the link like a key: anyone it gets forwarded to can open the trip. In the trip's settings you can remove people or rotate the link, which cuts off anyone holding the old one.

Does the app track my location?

Not in the background, and never when you are not posting. Every update carries a place, and while you are writing one the app can read your location a single time to suggest that place name.

The suggestion is a normal text field you can edit or replace, and you can type the place yourself and skip location permission entirely.

What happens when a trip ends?

The trip moves to completed on its own once the end date passes. Nothing disappears. It stays in your trips and stays open to everyone who was following it, so you can all go back through it later.

We do not expire or auto delete trips. A trip stays until you delete it.

Payments and account

How do payments work?

Your first trip is free. After that, $4.99 a trip, $14.99 for five, or $24.99 for unlimited. These are one time purchases, not subscriptions, and the people following you never pay for anything.

Those are US prices. Apple and Google set store prices per country, so the amount you see may differ.

In the iPhone and Android apps, purchases go through the App Store and Google Play. On the web, they are processed by Stripe. In every case the payment is handled by the store or by Stripe, so we never see or store your card details.

To see what you have bought, go to Settings and open Purchase history. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, and Google Play purchases by Google. For anything else, email us and we will look into it.

How do I delete my account or a single trip?

To delete your account and its data, go to Settings, scroll to Danger Zone, and tap Delete Account. This runs immediately and cannot be undone. You can also request deletion at itinrary.com/delete-account.

To delete a single trip, open the trip and use its settings menu. This removes the trip and its updates for everyone who was following it.

Troubleshooting

Why didn't a push notification arrive?

A few things to check:

  • Notifications are turned on for Itinrary in your phone's settings

  • You turned on notifications for that specific trip using the bell on the trip page

  • Your phone has a working internet connection

  • Someone has actually posted an update since you last looked

Some networks and corporate VPNs delay push delivery. If notifications are consistently missing, email us with your device model and OS version.

Why didn't I get an email I expected?

Check your spam or promotions folder first. That is the most common cause. Password reset and verification links expire after one hour, so request a fresh one if the link has gone stale.

If you signed in with Apple and chose Hide My Email, Apple forwards our email to your real address through its relay, which can add a delay or filter more aggressively.

Can I use Itinrary abroad or offline?

Abroad, yes. There is no region lock and the app behaves the same in any country.

Offline, no. Posting an update uploads your photos and videos, so it needs a working connection. If you are on a flight or somewhere without signal, post once you reconnect. An update is timestamped when you post it, so a batch posted at the end of the day lands together at that point in the trip.

Is my data backed up? What happens if you go out of business?

We run automatic daily backups of all trip data with 30 day retention. If something goes wrong on our end, trips are recoverable.

If we ever discontinue the service, we will give you advance notice and a way to export your trips.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Email support@itinrary.com. The more detail the better: your device, your OS version, what you were doing, and what happened versus what you expected. Screenshots help a lot.

We read every message, and bug reports get priority.
